yeah i think 79 was the last. than ford started having the cabs made as crew cabs instead of hacking two regular cabs and welding them together, and the doors for that matter.
no, not all crewcabs were made in canada. a lot were but a lot were not. the factory built 64+/-to79 crewcabs were not made by welding two cabs together. they were made specifically from parts made for crewcabs. the floors are a different shape from a standard truck like a bronco or a supercab are, the roof is one piece and the back doors are shorter and a different shape than the front doors. there is a club specifically for earlier crewcabs and they can tell you the differnces between a ford built unit and an aftermarket that WAS made by welding two trucks together such as Crown who was a big company that did it. Ford built crews are were made on the lines with other pickups and your serial number will tell you where it was built. I believe the vast majority of the 73-79 crews were made in the USA. I personally have never come accross a crew built in canada but I am sure they are out there. hawkrod
the crewcab club is not on this site. do a web search and you should be able to find it. they are specifically interested in 61-66 crewcabs and supercabs (yes they do actually exist, well, at least two documented examples and where there are two there are more! LOL) and they deal with both manufactured and factory made crewcabs. hawkrod
my first crew was a 78 f-250 2wd, built in canada, second was a 73 f-350 crew 2wd, built in canada, and 3rd 78 f-350 2wd crew built in canada. even my 88 f-350 4x4 diesel crew was built in canada.
I guess it probably has something to do with where you live, I almost could not be farther away from you here in california about 150 miles from the southwest tip of the country! I check serial numbers regularly and never see canadian built trucks. Ours seem to be predominantly San Jose built but we also see a lot from louisville for some reason. Hawkrod
The back doors seem smaller because they are a front door without the vent window. The glass is the same but the metal channel that the glass is glued into is slightly different. the rear of the door shell is the same. The inside was gutted to install the crew cab inner door panels and regulator. the latches are the same except they don't have the door lock cylinder rod. The door hinges are off of 67 through 72 body styles. The inner door handles to the crew were off of the cars from early to mid 70's. The lower scuff plates were nothing but a shortened front door scuff plate but the upper scuff plates were of of 72 style vans. just some info
