My 2000 f250 psd has steering wander. Dealer installed new ball joints. Seemed to fix temporarily. Also doesn't seem to want to turn. Front end was aligned with ball joints. Wander is worse when towing. Any help out there?
My '01 seemed to wander especially when towing, after instaling the stiffer add-a-leafs, front and rear, the problem has disappeared. I think the stock new SD F250 suspensions are soft and tend to have a lot of side to side movement.
Just my $.02....
Yes, I changed tires twice. Had no wander until I changed tires. Had Revo's to start with. They came with 30day ride warranty. They wandered so I change to BFG AT's. They wander also. Then changed ball joints. This fixed temporarily. The truck will start one way. When you try to correct, it just sits there for a second, then goes other way. Is there a way to adjust the steering box?
Yes there is a way to adjust the steering box. On top of the box is an allen head bolt with a lock nut. Loosen the lock nut and tighten the allen bolt in 1/8th turn increments until desired steering response. After making a 1/8th turn adjustment, tighten lock nut and turn steering wheel lock to lock to seat and take for a drive. If after 3 or 4 1/8th turns on allen and play is not gone you probably have other issues. Caution: there is a plastic/nylon ball at the end of the allen bolt and over tightening can damage it. Good luck!
Check your front driveshaft ujoints if they are froze you will have major steering issues while in 2 wd.. Jack up the front turn wheels to one side, Lock one hub and turn the wheel by hand it should turn free. Do the same for the other side..
All cause you said temp fixed.... I think this may be your prob...
