What do you do when someone corrects you while driving? You know like "You shouldn't slow down so much before you turn" (This was before the new shocks, even the slowest of turns made you afraid of flipping the truck. They realized there mistake though. ) or " Are you sure your turn signal is working because I didn't hear it" That one wasn't correcting anything but it didn't help either. Anyway most of the time I turn to them and say “Thank you Texas drivers handbook". They usually get the point.
I am probably the worst passenger to have ever ridden with anyone. However, with the exception of several comments to my wife, I usually hold my comments and gestures in check while a passenger. My helpful advice won't make the driver any better at the subject in which they already feel themselves experts!
Braking is one of my passenger pet peeves. Most people will rush along and then stop at the last remaining moment. I have had brakes fail on more than one occasion in more than one vehicle and like to leave myself a little room for emergency manuevering if the need arises!
I also prefer to leave a bit of room between me and the vehicle in front of me at a stop, usually about three quarters the length of my vehicle. I theorize that the cushion will help when the last minute brakers behind me hit me. Or in these days, the space will allow exit room in case I need to escape an assailant.
I also miss the days when smoothly shifting manual gears was a graceful sign of an accomplished driver. Most people I have had the misfortune to passenger with seem to think that winding the gear to the top before harshly slamming the clutch pedal in and out while planting the throttle is a correct way to shift gears. If only people today had to perfect the non-synchromesh transmissions!
I also.... Well, I think you get the point that I am not a good passenger. I do try to refrain from the comments while in the person's car because riding sure beats walking!
"I also prefer to leave a bit of room between me and the vehicle in front of me at a stop, usually about three quarters the length of my vehicle."
Most people don't know if you get rear ended and pushed into the person in front it's your fault (In Texas anyway). Extreme cases get dismissed if a ticket was ever written.
If someone (G/F) bugs me while driving I hint that I'm tired of hearing it. If that doesn't work I pull over and ask "Alright, either stop it or one of us walks home. To be fair we'll flip a quarter." I won't drive my mother around anymore, but I also won't let her drive. She nags so much at people driving that you start worrying about her instead of paying attention to the road. I think my dad fakes being hard of hearing. Oddly enough she is one of the worst drivers in the family as well...
i usually remind them of my trpohies from racing both street and dirt on bikes AND cars...and my PERFECT driving record that has never been scarred with an accident that i was charged with
