I have a 2003 excursion. The rear airconditioner is blowing ambient temperture air. The low pressure return to the compressor is warm coming from the rear condensor coil and cold from the Front unit. Obviously the compressor is working fine. I do not know where to look to fix the problem. I am very handy and do most if not all the work on my own vehicles. Can anyone hint to the problem and what must be done to fix it.
The 2003 Ford Excursion has 55k on it is over 1.5 years old. The warranty is expired. I was hoping some one would have an idea if the problem is in a actuator of sorts. I know in a pressured system this is what is used to prevent flow in any direction. I was hoping to locate the unit. In most likelihood the problem is a wire to the actuator and that would be much faster to fix myself then waiting all day at the dealership.
Tom, I would look at the orfice tube as the problem. If it has ruptured or broken then your high pressure side is flowing directly into your evap and back through to the low side. It would give you a warm return on the low side. But your gonna have to break the line apart to get it out I believe. I have an 03 also but haven't even looked how the rear A/C setup is on this truck yet. Hope this helps.
I believe your rear unit uses an expansion valve. It could have failed, or the electronic blend door actuator. One common cause of low rear performance is simply low on freon.
