HI all! Ive got a problem with my AC Compressor, with the AC on the compressor ingages then disenages about every 5 seconds. Now I looked into it and some people said you can remove a washer to remove a gap. Do you think I should change the whole unit? Looked online and I can get one for $100. If I do work on the AC compressor to try and fix it or remove the whole unit do I need to drain any refrigent etc etc. I have a haynes repair booklet and they said that to remove the accompressor you need to get it drained by professionals. ALthough on the compressor I only see a electrical plug and no hoses.
SO enlighten me on what I should do thanks!
Walmart sells the kits. Just buying a can of 134a wont get you there unless you have a set of gauges. And the compressor has to running and engaged for it take refrigerant into the system. Read the directions carefully.
BTW, IMHO, if you dont know what you are doing when charging AC its best to let someone who does do it. There are "easy" add setups you can buy that allow you to hook a hose to the system and add refrigerant. But they are not really accurate and if you add too much it can damage the system.
Of course the other question to ask is "was it working right before and now is not?" Meaning did you have a sudden failure or did it get worse over time or has it never worked?

I was able to buy some on Amazon. Bought one wiht the hose/gauge. There were 2 different ones but I got the one with better reviews.
And to answer your question, yes it did work back last May when I bought the truck but the AC was real crappy. Over winter that AC thing that I posted on youtube with the clutch engaging and disengaging started to happen. Now at that point I didnt really feel like changing or doing anything to it because after winter I dont use AC im a window person but for this winter I will need it again so Im getting prepared ahead of time. Also If I intend on selling the truck early/mid next yea,r Its good to have it fixed.
Norsegod,
First Picture is an A/C pressure relief valve that will blow off the a/c charge if the head pressure exceeds maybe 440 psi, like a blocked condenser, failed fan or shroud, etc.
Second Picture is an A/C pressure sensor for the low side telling the system there is enough refrigerant to activate the compressor.
Third Picture is a Throttle Position Sensor to tell the ECU how much you are stepping on the pedal.

.
That's not a pressure relief valve, and it does not allow any refrigerant to blow off. It's a high pressure switch, and it makes the compressor shut off if the pressure gets too high, BEFORE any relief valve opens.
To the OP: If you're low on refrigerant, that means you have a leak. You should fix the leak first, THEN add refrigerant, otherwise the new refrigerant you add will likely leak out and you'll be back at square one.
