I have a 2000 Model Navigator that has 54K miles and now the engine is knocking 4k miles out of warranty. What are the chances of Ford Fixing this problem and also how much is this gonna cost me If I have to rebuild the engine. ANY and all HElp Is appreciated...... Thanks
When does it knock? Constantly or just at start-up?
Many of these engines have a condition known as "piston slap" taht occurs momentarily after start-up. While it may be annoying, it supposedly doesn't hurt anything.
If you need a new engine, you're probably looking at no less than $4K.
it knocks at start up and while driving........... whats the chance of Ford helping on this one since it is just 4k out of warranty.
Probably pretty slim if it's really major, but it doesn't hurt to ask as they might have some sort of goodwill program. I think you need to pinpoint the problem before asking for a new engine though.
