I have a 98 Expedition XLT with a 5.4 and my brother-n-law has a 2000 Navigator. I thought the Navigator had the same size engine but he say's his is larger that a 5.4 (possibly 5.7 ?????) Till I see him in person can anyone confirm the engines? I would have thought they both had the same motors.
Like Tyger said, they are the same motor, same 330 c.i. The navigator also requires premium fuel. I don't remember if the navigator puts out more power. Anyone else know?
Only if the Navi is equipped with the Intech motor. The Intech is a DOHC 4V. Without this option (which is the one requiring premium fuel) it is the same engine as the Expy (SOHC 2V). I may be incorrect but I thought the HP rating of the Intech was 300.
Well my neighbor has a '98 Expeditions EB Edit and Im pretty sure his engine size is the same as my '98 Navigator, including the stock HP, but i have an Intake, spacer, and soon headers, Navi in this case has more , but the diff comes when u have a 4.6L V8 Expy, then u have 215.... also on newer mods, i know for a fact that 2000+ stock Navs have 300 while srock Expys have 260...however im not too sure on the Expys CC's but the Navs is 302 CC's
this really has little to do with this but if you bu 87 octane fuel in a 2000 navigator, what would really happen to it? would it really get damadged? ifso how fast? also what if i fill the tank with 87 and the put in one of those octane booster bottles....would it equate 93? or better? thanks
My guess is it would run fine as long as you still have the stock computer in it. The Navigator uses a knock sensor and will back timing out if you start to pre-detonate. It would also depend on weather and what type of driving you were doing. With normal driving you would probably only notice you get better gas mileage with the lower octane!
Now John, didn't we recently have a conversation on the topic of Navi knock sensors or was it someone else? As far as the knowledge I have gained, the knock sensor is inop on the Navi Intech motors. Apparently too much noise from the DOHC valvetrain to filter out or something to that effect.

Well, it wasn't me! I have looked at the parameters in a 98 Navigator EEC and the knock sensor is enabled (I have a 98). I can look in my Diablo Chipmaster Revolution software and see if it is enabled on say an 01 Navigator - will post an update tomorrow.
