"78 brake bleeding question

I have a '78 F250 2wd, and need to replace the master cylinder. The truck is over 6800 GVWR and has the type of proportioning valve that has the pin that needs to be depressed, not the one that has the plunger that has to be pulled out. When bleeding the brakes, does this pin have to be held in, or once pushed in, does it stay in? My manual is not clear on this issue. If it needs to be held in. does anyone make a tool for this job? Thanks for any help on this!

Bill

You shouldn't need to do anything if you've bench bled the master. You shouldn't get much if any air in the lines. Always pump slowly when bleeding brakes, this will avoid tripping the valve.

Bench bleeding is the best way, but you can also pump it and use a vaccuum tool. I did both simultaneously and it bled out fine. Those vaccuum bleeders are the way to go.
