Questions: Reverse sensor and rear window hatch
I have DVD's inside and it nice to watch them outside. When I lift the rear window, the light stays on. How do I get it to turn off?
The override switch is a good idea. Could you please tell me at what point in the wiring would you install this?

I have some electrical troubleshooting to do tonight (https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/s...d.php?t=262375), I’ll take a look at the wiring schematics for a convenient spot.

1. A 12VDC 30AMP backlit (optional) switch available from Radio Shack.
2. Some quick-splices. I cannot remember the true name.
3. About 3' of 16ga wire. 3 colors if you can.
4. Necessary connectors to attach the wires to the switch and one wire to ground.
5. 10mm socket and wrench.
Disconnect the battery first!
1. Remove the fuse panel access door below the steering wheel.
2. Locate the fuse box.
3. Put your hand underneath and behind the fuse box.
4. You will find two large "connectors" that are held on by recessed 10mm bolts .
5. You want the one that is facing the OUTSIDE OF THE TRUCK. Or the outboard one. (left one as you are looking at the fuse box.)
5. Remove the 10mm bolt.
6. This will free the connector. It is white on the bottom and comes out when the bolt is removed.
7. Remove the black cover on the connector via 4 clips.
8. Locate pin #33. They are labelled. As you are looking at the inside of the connector, it is on the right side about the 4th one up.
9. It is a Black/Light Blue wire.
10. Take your quick splices and put them onto the wire as far UP the wire as you can. (I had to remove some electrical tape.) Do NOT clamp them down yet.
11. Attach the wire that is coming from the POWER side of the switch to the part of the wire that is coming FROM the connector. Or the splice closest to the connector.
12. Clamp the splice down securely.
13. Do the same for the other wire. This wire will be LOAD from the switch going TO the lights.
14. Clamp down securely.
>Here's where you cut the stock wire between the two splices.< It's okay... really...
15. Re-install cover.
16. Re-install bolt.
17. Ground switch on one of the bolts you'll see when you removed the panel.
18. Hook up battery.
When the doors are opened the switch will light up. When you hit the switch to turn them off, the switch light will go out.
All lights can still be controlled individually.
If you want to be able to over-ride your running board lights, then do the same splice job to pin #20. It is also a BLK/LB wire.
Okay...after doing this mod I realized that the switch that I used may be overkill. You probably do not need such a large switch. Not a lot of amps/voltage moves through it. You probably do not need one that it lighted either.

On the face of your dashboard\instrument panel, to the right of the steering wheel, there's a rectangular area with 3 controls. The one in the upper left corner of the rectangle is the Parking Assist Disable Switch, in the lower left is the Rear Window Defogger (Defroster) and the larger "dial" on the right is the 4 Wheel Drive function selector switch (2WD-4WD-Hi-4WD-Lo). The Parking Assist should only be a factor with the engine running and transmission selector in "R" (Reverse), if the rear doors (tailgate doors) are open, Parking Assist does not operate. Once disabled- it only stays disabled until you shut the engine off. After you re-start the engine the next time- Parking Assist will be active again. I hope this helps.

The fuse thing sounds good to turn the hatch light off. I don't like waiting for ten minutes. The bugs can get attracted pretty quick especially when someone opens the door and activates it.
I might go with the switch to turn the light off.
