[updated:LAST EDITED ON 17-May-02 AT 07:52 PM (EST)]hi i have a 97 ford explorer XLT. i just bought the thing and now the driver side window wont work i cant figure it out. the others work fine but just that window wont work. i am at a lose please help
I've had a number of Ford elec windows go out on me in older cars. the problemalways seemed to be the brushed on the elec motor wearing down and the dust hampering the operation.
temporary fix:
Take a rubber mallet, open the door, and hit the metal on the inside bottom of the door (the plastic will break if you hit it, so don't) while holding the button for the window to go up.
The rubber mallet shouldn't hurt the metal, and the smack will vibrate the motor enough to shake some dust free, and it will work again for a little while.
Eventually you may need a new motor, but if the design is similar to the 80's models I've had, this trick will work.
thanks i dont know what happened my wife got in the explorer a few hours later and the damn thing worked but i coulndt get it to work. what ever she did it fixed it so thanks
