power window wont work

The drivers side power window on my 97 F150 wont go down. When I push the switch all I get is a clicking sound. Is this the solenoid clicking. Also is this going to be a difficult task removing the door panel and window motor.

Thanks for the help

I just replaced my window motors a few months ago. Mine did the same thing. It is very easy to get the panels off. I had them replaced a few times by the dealer. I had an ongoing problem with them. Anyway, I'm pretty sure the factory ones are riveted in. You may have to drill them out. When I replaced mine, they were bolted in, which I assume was from the dealer's work drilling out the rivets. they did a terrible job hacking away at the door etc. If it was not riveted in..the hack job may have been from them widening out the holes to fit a socket into...

But honestly it takes only about 5 minutes to get the panel off.
I'm flying blind here by memory. I think the first thing to take off would be the window/door switch plate. It just pops out, disconnect the harness and let them settle behind the panel. there should be one screw holding on the door handle, like a 10mm remove the handle. There is a triangular trim piece near the side mirrors which pop off. I believe there was another trim piece that popped off as well. once those trim pieces are off, there should be 3 plastic fasteners to remove. Once off the panel can be popped upwards and almost off. There will be a light bulb wire/socket for the marker light to twist and set aside (remember to reconnect during install...I forgot to).
I really think that is close to being correct. Like I said, I'm not looking at it and it was a while ago...but definetly easy.
One note, I bought my motor from NAPA autoparts. They offered a few kinds. One was a remanufactured unit and one was brand new. The new one was cheaper so I got that one. Well, it was junk. It was all plastic and lacked power to run the window as well as noisey. I got the remanufactured one instead for $5 more and it was a metal casing like the factory and worked great....Just watch out for that. Be sure to put lots of grease on the gear as well as the gear on the window track to quiet down too. There are only 3 bolts to install the motor. make sure to reference the direction of the motor so you can reinstall it. Also, the cord is a bit long, so make sure to put that in so not to get caught up in moving parts...
This sounds worse then it is..It is a very simple install.

Check the switch out first, my 99 had a bad switch. I disammbled the switch and cleaned the contacts. Reassembled and it works great. Just a thought the dealership wanted to put a new window motor in it.
