i bought my new psd june 30th. I got 1.9% financing on the truck thru ford motor credit. well about a week later the dealer calls and said the 1.9% financing was not available untiign a new contract with the correct date. ok i did nothing had changed but the date. This morning the dealer calls back and said they ran the wrong vin # the 1.9% is not available on a psd only on gas trucks. the dealer wants me to come back and sign a new contract with 3.9% interest which will intern raise the amount financed about 2grand and my not about 40$ a month. The 1.9% is part of the reason i went ahead and bought the truck.
Do the contracts mention for gas only?
Tell dealer, you won't sign anything else until you have a lawyer look at what you have already signed.
Then go to another dealer, ignoring the first dealer altogether.
I won't trust first dealer with anything else, ever. At least one of the following must be true:
a) Dealer is incompetent.
b) Dealer is trying to take advantage of you. Bait and switch.
Likely both are true.
In either case you don't want to do business with him.
Yep, tell 'em to take the truck back. They can probably legally make you take the higher rate, although that may be something to check into as well. But if they won't budge and the terms are not acceptable to you, you should have the right to walk away.
ANd with no out of pocket expense - even mileage - their mistake, their loss, it was just an extended test drive....
Now, if there was a trade involved... tell them to find a comparable trade in if yours is gone and giv eyou that one...
you're in the drivers seat here ----
even if you WANT the truck....
I would get some help looking over the contracts and talk to someone other than this dealer except to tell them your calling Ford....
OBTW, the dealers HAVE been know to eat the difference
Hey PC...by any chance are you in Houston? If so, I bet you money I can PM you with the name of the dealer that did this to you...will also bet you that they will tell you your trade is gone if you traded...my wife used to work for their advertising company and they were NOTORIOUS for doing this to customers...wasn't no accident!!!!
Just my opinion, but give them the truck back, you bought it under the condition it was financed at 1.9%. If they change their mind and give you the 1.9%, then that is fine you can keep the truck, but I definitely would not take it for 3.9 if you bought it and they told you the rate was 1.9%, their fault, their loss, you just got to drive around in a really cool truck for free. Then go to a different dealer who won't make such a ignorant mistake. The problem with keeping it for 3.9% is I would constantly be wondering if the dealer took advantage of me with this deal, why give your business to a dealer that makes a mistake that is not your fault, and then won't take the proper actions to correct it?
And as far as the dealers name and where he's at ...
POST IT !!!!
Save your FTE friends the trouble of having to go through that !
Grand Prarie Ford here in DFW got such a horrbile reputation, they had to sell and the new owners knew to move to get away from the stigma....
they thought of changing their name too.... but worked very hard to correct the bias most customers had...
I will be glad to post it as soon as a moderator reads this and says it is ok...in the meantime, I will pm you with it also!!!!
Im sure Tim will have no problem with it. As a matter of fact, if you read through some of the threads, he requests that people list any good and bad experiences they have had with a given dealer.
the two dealers (actually at one point they were owned by the same people, not sure if they are now) are Planet Ford and Randall Reed Ford. I personally had a problem with Planet Ford almost exactly the same as the person starting this thread...and then one of my friends bought a truck from Randall Reed...when they called him and told him that his deal wasn't approved at the rate he signed for, he went to take the truck back in and his trade in was "already sold." All of this was before my wife, who worked recently for an ad agency who dealt solely with car dealerships, knew the information about these two dealers. Had I known her when I bought from Planet (or tried to) I would not have used them because of the "insider" info that she found out when she was working there. Now to plug a very good dealer in Houston, I have used Lone Star and a fellow there named "Cochise" has been absolutely awesome. I think he has even been endorsed by another board for group purchases. For sheer service work, I have used Tommie Vaughn (a guy named Jeremy in their "Big Truck" shop...and he has also been superb)...if only ALL of Ford's reps were as good as these two guys!!!
I'd guess if the dealership does this all the time, they have some wording in the contract that will allow them to jerk the guy around. Not many folks read the fine print when they sign the papers. It might be worth the time and money to have a lawyer look at them, though.
The trade in thing is a tough one, though. Wouldn't the dealer be forced to give you a full refund for the trade if they got rid of it? You might have to pay more taxes on the subsequent purchase, though.
I'm with huntercgr. You have a signed contract and the vehicle. I'm assuming the signed contract also included a signed note with Ford Credit specifically stating interest rate. The only problem might be where the note says not valid unless accepted by Ford Credit but their letting you take vehicle puts them on the spot.
