I'm a bit of a newbie... I guess... I still have a Kelty ext frame pack. I'm looking to upgrade to a redcloud 6500, int frame. Its twice the size of my current pack, but I don't have much of a choice, I'd like to stay out more than three days. My tent is a Coleman Cobra, but I'm looking at a Kelty Quartz 2, its a pretty good price, and I like the Kelty brand. I have a Kelty bag too, I don't know what model it is though. I've been looking for an MSR miniworks water purifier around town, finally one sporting goods store has one in.
i used to hike and camp all the time with my buddys when i lived in texas. we used to see how long we could stay out on our own and try and get some what lost. i like climbing too just not to much of that straight up a cliff stuff. wish i still lived around there, i would take my truck out and go even farther out in the middle of nowhere.
i still use and old ext frame pack too, it's stuck in my basement now i will have to look at what it is later. man i haven't used it in forever, i have to get back out there!
i haven't been using my stuff lately. not since i moved back up to the states from central america. i have a gregory int. frame pack....have you tried the gregory packs? very comfortable....keep 'hot spots' to a minimum. a lot of people still use the exterior frames...i suppose it's because you can strap stuff to them easier. dunno, i tried them and didn't like them. got a sierra designs tent...not sure what model...it's small though and sets up in a pinch. an msr international stove...uses just about any fuel and very small once again. msr water purifier....not sure what model it is or how many microns the filter is....but it takes care of all the nasty stuff like beaver feaver....lol...plus it screws right onto my nalgene bottles. and last but certainly not the least!!! my lowa boots. i've tried and wore out many brands, but these lowa's are the most comfortable i've ever owned. cost a pretty penny, but i felt it was worth it to keep my feet happy.
