My F-250 have an Edelbrock Performer intake and carb. I want something that won't suck in water, stay relatively cool, clear the weird ford 351W front dizzy, and clear the fuel line into the carb (I was too poor at the time to get the bling banjo fitting for like $20).
I still have the original air cleaner assembly, but it needs painted and that. Should I get another K&N or chromie from summit, or stack in a bigger on into the stock housing, or try to get another stock housing (like a big block gm or something) from the junkyard and use it?
btw, the stock air cleaner is like 12" around and like 2" tall. it is pretty puny for a stock 4V engine.
I run a K&N, I was running a 14in dia x 5in tall but with the way I set the new truck up it hit the firewall so now running a 11x6, then I run one of the nylon precleaners from k&n, and don't ever seem to ever suck any water (no it wouldn't work submerged but then you need a snorkle anyway), and this is a mud drag truck (take a look in my gallery, and you will see just how much mud I am talking about) the precleaner seems to stop the mud, and water then when it dries just take the precleaner off, and shake walla clean filter.

that is good to know.. I used to run a precleaner on my atv, and it stopped a lot of water..
if you were running a 14x5, I can probably run the same size on my '85 F-250. Btw, was the base on that flat, or was it a low profile one that fits down over the carb 1"?

mine was the regular raised base air cleaner, one thing to watch is the fire wall on your engine I was running a 302 in an 86, and when I went to a predator with a 1in spacer I had to switch to a 3in element because the top of the air cleaner hit the top edge of the firewall but that combination is about 3in taller than just a regular carb, plus it was on an edelbrock performer rpm manifold which adds another inch so you shouldn't have any problem but just something to watch or check.
We had a guy one time drop his truck off because it was not running , we lift the hood , stock paper air cleaner with a chrome top . It was packed with sand and wet mud our advice ....sell us whats left of it for 50$
It isn't really that weird, but I've never had a ford V8, just GM V8s. I'm only ever had 300-6s... I just though I had less clearance in the front, but maybe I'm wrong..
bremen...if you are looking to save a few bucks over the k&n filter get the bling bling air filter kit and but an air filter for a 6.2 gm diesel,i can get you the purolator part number if needed. it comes with a pre-sock and is five inches tall.cost about ten bucks.
btw.. with this set up,if you run a tall plug wire(like a taylor) the air filter will touch the wire ends, but wont interfere with anything.
