i have a 2000 superduty with a six inch lift and 36 14.50 swampers, The front axle needs new balljoints and the wheel bearings arent far behind either, also it still has 3.73 gears so i should regear it too. but to make it right i need a dynatrac conversion for the wheel bearings. so thats roughly $300 for the balljoint $1600 for the dynatrac conversion and $1500 to regear it also the rear tires are shot so theres $600 more grand total $4000 but I have a set of rockwells and i can get a set of 46 inch michelins for $400 like new xmls, a set of 10 inch lift front springs for $200, a 5 inch front hanger kit for $200, four rotors and machining to fit the rockwells $500, and wheels for another $100 so thats $1400 and i still need rear springs, shocks, longer brake lines and shocks but under $3000 would be easy plus i can sell the wheels on the truck for around $600 the 6 inch lift for $300 and the axles for $1000 so i would only be out $1000 to $1500 and have a bulletproof drivetrain. so should i go with the rockwells or not?
Stop fighting for the rockwells. if you want some ill email you some info about where you can get your own cheap. I have 7 sets plus about 8 extra rears 4 of them are in complete trucks bought for $350 each. I had five but three ran and i sold one for $2500
if it were me with all the abuse i put my trail rigs throughit would be worth it, but in your case would you really ever use it? i mean you gonna use it to shopping or you gonna try to get up Potato Salad Hill or climb the Con? i say if you are gonna use it then go for it otherwise find a new home for them where they will get some use! i just hate to see good parts like winches and tires and 1+ ton drivetrain go towards a vehicle that hardly sees a dirt road!
Cody wins the fight! no money for new axles and my d60 is holding up just fine right now with my 33's. We'll see how long the d60 last with 37" GH's 5.13 gears and lockers. Then we'll talk.
