My 98 Xploers power antenna will not go down. Its getting power because I can here the motor turning. If I help it a little it grabs, then goes down. Goes up no problem. Has any else heard of this?
I had the same problem with my 1999 Mountaineer's power antenna too it gets stuck up and wont go down, the problem is that the teeth on the plastic part of the antenna that goes into the motor are either broken or worn out, i replaced mine by purchasing a NEW antenna mast from this guy on ebay here is the link: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...spagename=WDVW
If the antenna motor is working then this is your problem, the antenna is easy to replace if you need information on that write back and i will give you that info.
i just unplugged the motor who needs a power antenna anyways LOL. But yes I have seen the replacment masts on ebay and they do work just make sure you have a spare set of hands to turn radio power on as you help feed the cable in
I had to pull out the motor assy in order to extract the broken off piece. Also had problems feeding the new antenna mast assy in so it worked properly (it would grap and stick because it was not trained in the proper form of the gear assy). Ended up having to pack it in by hand but it worked.
HERE IS THE DETAILED DIRECTIONS OF REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION OF THE POWER ANTENNA GOOD LUCK!
Power Antenna Removal
1. Unsnap the radio antenna base cap
2. Remove the radio antenna nut
3. Remove the antenna mast and cable.
Turn the ignition switch to the ACC position.
Turn the radio chassis ON/OFF switch to ON.
Firmly pull the antenna mast and cable out of the electric antenna motor.
Installation
1. Note:
Check the end of the plastic antenna drive cable for a slight taper. If the drive cable is broken, a section of cable may be inside the electric antenna motor. Remove the broken cable. Refer to «Antenna—Motor».
Position the cable so the teeth are facing the front of the vehicle.
2. Insert the antenna.
l Manually extend the antenna.
l Insert the cable until resistance is felt.
l Turn the cable slightly left and right to fully engage the cable into the motor gear.
3. Have an assistant turn the ignition switch to ACC and turn the radio chassis ON/OFF switch from ON to OFF.
4. Apply light downward pressure to the antenna as the electric antenna motor starts retracting the cable.
5. Guide the antenna in as the motor winds the cable into the drive unit and retracts the antenna sections.
µ 6. Install the radio antenna nut.
7. Install the radio antenna base cap.
8. Cycle the electric antenna motor several times to ensure the antenna is extending and retracting properly.
