Rims in real bad shape.

I have some polished rims on my truck that are trashed and need help. I have tried every polish that I can find and have had poor results. I got some bleach white on the rims by mistake and they are covered with streaks and spots. Is there anything else I can try? It's to the point where I may just buy new rims. i can't be the only person who have had this problem, can I ?

Are the wheels clearcoated? If not have you tried Never Dull? It comes in a small can and when you open it, it looks like a big cotton ball. Tare of a small piece and polish until the area you are polishing turns black. Then buff the area with a clean cloth. If that doesn't work find an auto detailer supply shop in your area. Auto Magic makes a product called Spoke. It is an acid that you spray on the wheels. Do one at a time and don't leave it on to long. If you have one use a pressure washer to spray it off. You will have to repolish the wheel when you are done as the acid basically strips everything off the wheel. Do not use Spoke if your wheels are clearcoated.

I did the exact same thing to my Mickey Thompsons. I tried Never Dull and it didn't work. Blue Magic worked unbelievably well!!! Rub it in until it turns black and then rub it off. You've got to rub a lot!!!! But, its worth it.

Stylinconcepts.com sells a kit that you can buy to brighten the wheels back up. the kit is kind of pricy but it looks like it works. you might want to check with them and find some info on it. also another good place to look would be eastwoodcompany.com

Some times its better to buy news ones compared to the work involved in restoring your old rims??? taking off your rims, polishing takes alot of labor plus you have to clear coat. news rims have a consistent look of refection of light, restored rims done by hand, you can tell or I say I can tell because I'm pro detailer

thats just something you have to take into consideration before you start a project like that. you got to decide if it is really worth the time, money, labor, and frustration it might cause. or would it br worht it all to not go through all that and buy the new wheels.

You don't have to clearcoat them you just have to keep them polished. To me my labor is cheaper then forking out $1,000 for new wheels. With a little elbow grease anything is possible. Oh yeah and a BFH.

All great tips. Thanks guys. The cleaning kits are rather pricy as stated. Alot less than new rims but I'm tired of the hassle of it all.I fish alot and recently went thru some saltwater and it really didn't help things any. Coated rims are in my future for sure.

salt is deffinetly not good on the polished alumminum wheels. but they do make a clear powder coat the can be sprayed over them.
