Are you talking about the 7 pin trailer plug?

I assumed he meant trailer.

I am not the smartest person on that, but I just used that pin for my new reverse lights. It is only hot when in reverse as it is the connection for the trailer reverse lights. If he is looking for a constant hot, then he is not looking for reverse lights. It only makes the question more confusing to me.

Ok, so you're not the smartest person, but still smarter then me

I didn't completely read the original question or missed the center pin part.

As FordxFour posted, the center pin is most commonly used for backup lights. That's how my truck came from the factory as well as others that I know.

So - next dumb a$$ question.....I have a set of 55 watt rectangle KC's, if I get a plug, wire it to the lights, and plug it in, it should work, right?

I only plan on doing this for launching my boat, don't really want to hard wire them, just a longer pig tail to plug in for launching the boat.

Thanks guys!!!

Yes, as long as you watch the amp draw on that particular circuit.

Here is a link which shows both the 6 & 7 pin connectors... As noted above, the Ford boys wire the middle (AUX) pin of the 7 pin connector to your reverse lights. I tapped into it when installing the aux reverse lights I mounted on my truck.

OBTW, the flip-up cover on my 2001 7 pin shows what each pin is.

One thing to think of when launching your boat, assuming it is dark and then the need for lights, you will always have to have it in reverse for the lights to come on. If this is a temp setup just used for marine launches, I would tap the 12V charge, put a switch in it to allow the lights to stay on at your choice while you load/unload boat.

Second thought, I have seen the mudflap mounts that go on the stinger side of the hitch, usually they have some type of a tension bolt to keep it from ratling around. You might go this route for your temp setup.

center pin is for reverse lights, didnt use that one for mine, ran a seperate switch for the 55s i added on the truck, and ran a pigtail off of that to the trailer lights i added, also tied the trailer lights into the origional harness so others could use it as well, is a little more convenient for me, because i can have them on when ever i want, but is left up to you!
