DRW or SRW?

I have decided that my next truck will be a LB, CC, 4X4, 6.0, F350. However I'm having a tough time deciding to go dually or single rear wheels. I have no real purpose for a dually, I just think they look cool. My wife says the dually will be a pain to drive around town, parking and going through drive-thru's. can anyone out there give me any pros and cons as it relates to daily driving? Thanks in advance.

Well - as far as the drive through thing - I can't take my 7.3 SRW truck through - I'd have to shut the truck off just to hear what they are saying out of that little speaker! Sorry - anyhow...

Here's a couple thoughts off the top of my head. You gotta buy 6 tires instead of 4 when it needs tires and to rotate the DRW tires they have to be dismounted and re-mounted on the other wheel. They are wider and will handle different, would seem kinda a waste if you're not needing the dually. They do look cool and there's not nearly as many DRW's out there as SRW. Can leave really cool black marks on the road when doing smokey burnouts with a DRW. Sorry - couldn't help myself.

Good luck deciding - no matter which way you go sounds like you'll have yourself a real nice truck there!!

depending on where you live, winter driving can be a pain with a DRW.

Maybe thats enough of a reason, but I wouldn't drive one if I didn't have to. They drive like a barge and are about as hard to park as one. They drive like crap in mup and snow, and tire rotation is a challenge. Now if you're gonna tow big loads...

I wouldn't say my truck drives like a BARGE. I don't think it's THAT hard to park either. Sure, you can't park in those subcompact spaces up close to stores, but I think if we'd all tell the truth, MOST of us park way out where there are no other cars, be our truck SRW or DRW. I do have to be careful at drive-throughs, and the driving and handling characteristics ARE different. I have absolutely no need for a dually, yet I have one. If you want one, and can afford it....GET IT. Get what YOU want and what works for YOU. Who knows....maybe someday, you may actually NEED one.........

Not Knocking Other Post But I Have A 99 F350 Cc 4x4 Dually And I Love It. I Can Park It In Most Places But I Like To Take Up Two Parking Spots Because Some People Will Knock The Crap Out Of The Dual Fenders. I Have Driven Through Two Feet Of Snow With No Problem (in 4 Wheel Drive) It Handles Great. I Have Never Had It Stuck And It Will Pull Anything I Put Behind It! As Far As Wheel Rotation I Never Spend The Money To Rotate I Just Buy Two New And Put Them On The Front And Move The Older Ones To The Back. I Never Buy 6 New Ones Because They Will Not Wear The Same. My Outer Back Tire Wear Out First Regardless Of Tire Pressure So Thats Why I Do It Like That. The Biggest Reason Is I Think Duallies Are Sweet Rides. I Like Srw But In My Opinion Duallies Rule! I Also Have A V10, 5 Spd And Get 11mpg To 13mpg With 430 Gears But Like I Said This Is Just My Opinon. Either One Will Be A Great Decision! :-x22

I vote SRW. The dually's are a heckuva truck, true. But, if you don't need it, why hassle it? Extra expense with having 6 wheels, rotating, replacing, balancing and alligning is a PITA compared to a SRW. The extra initial cost of a dually. And, they don't seem to bring any more at trade-in (or hold their value) any better than a SRW. Not to mention that your wife was right about some of the "dually downfalls"!

Personally, I think the F-250 & F-350's with a mild lift or leveling kit and tires that fill-in the wheel wells look tough and strong themselves. They just stand strong and look like a man's man truck. Let's face it, the Ford F-250's and F-350's are just a better looking truck than the competition , especially when they're beefed up a little.

I'd go for the SRW,
DS

Same reason(s) some folks lay out $5K for a PSD. 'Cause they NEED it, or 'cause they WANT it. Personal preference, y'all.........

I have a 2000 cc f350 SRW and a 2000 sc DRW I love them. SRW is for work and the DRW for my 5ver. The DRW can be as pain in the A## for parking and tight spots but for pulling you can't beat them 11K GVW is great for loads. The SRW is also nice if you don't need the load. The cc long box still will not fit in a normal parking spot but better than a sc long box DRW. I love them both V10 4.30 gears rule.

Well if your lookin for pro's and cons
hmmmm
Pro: SRW has more aftermarket suspension parts readily available (for lifting)

Pro: DRW...You never have to worry if you can tow it

Con: Every one has a SRW (including me)

Con: DRW...You spend more $ for something you don't "need"

If you plan on owning a truck camper, you may want a dually. I was just looking to buy a truck camper an could only go with some of the medium sized models, because the larger models required the additional GVWR that the dually offered. But for everyday driving, I vote SRW.

Go the dually. They drive great. I use mine mainly for city driving, and have no complaints. If you like the dually but get the SRW for "practicality", you'll be sorry. Its the worst feeling spending 40 grand for a truck and thinking I really should have gotten the... I opted to drive a SRW off the lot instead a few years ago instead of ordering a dually, and needless to say, less than a year later I took a big loss and got the dually I had wanted from the very beginning.

Plain and simple, if the wife is gonna drive it at all get the SRW. Nothing worse than the wife tearing off a fender. I don't think a DRW is any different a beast than a SRW. I can't fit my SRW F250 SC in a drive through anyways. Besides that fast food ***t will kill ya.

As for handeling or traction I have not noticed any difference. But I am comparing E350 SRW to E350 DRW ambulances. If anything the DRW handles better at high speeds.

If u want it get it. Personally, I have enuff trouble with my SRW in parking lots and stuff here, so I would not want a dually, but there are plenty of ppl who have them just to have them.
