I like rounds Ive got silver star bulbs in my 78 custom (check my gallery to see the front end of my truck). I thought they only ran through June of 78 because my June of 78 custom has rounds and a budies july of 78 has square lights and their both factory.
78 Ranger with rectangulars. My old truck was a '70 with round lights and the split grille. I loved that too. I think the rects and one-piece grille look a little less class and a bit tougher.
Round all the way.....my '78 has the '73-'75 grill set-up w/ the '77 orange turn signals to match my '78 cab lights.....she's very confused about her age! LOL
I own 2 trucks with round headlights( a 73 and a 77), and 2 with rectangular headlights( a 78 Lariat and a 79). I like both grille styles, but I'd have to say I probably prefer the 73-77 style with the split grille and round headlights. The split grille just seems to me to have a cooler, more classic look.
I've gotta check in on the side of rectangular - just think they look better with the rectangular grill shapes. (I have a '78 F-150 Custom so currently have the round lights.)

I think for me it has to do with my age ....i was early twentys in the late 70"s and was heavy into vans , Ford vans of cource ,(old guys will remember they were the thing at the time ) we started using " square "...lol..headlights in customizing them . when ford saw the trend they put them in the trucks and vans. ..i was sold ..so was a lot of other people they sold a gazillion of them. i have had a dozen of them. have 3 right now.
Round guy here. I like the 76/77 grille the best. The '78 Custom grille looks dorky. The '79 grille grew on me......if you look at it right, it looks monsterous.
