76/77 grills with the round lights are the most aggressive/best looking. 78/79 look like a big mouth bass to me

I remember when these rectangular headlights came out in 1978 and liked them more than the round type because they match the grille and rectangular fog lights better. I really don't remember round fog lights being available back then, but maybe I just didn't see any.

Trivia question:
If you were driving your truck at night at the speed of light and turned on the headlights what would happen?

My 78 supercab parts truck has the round head lights, and when I get them off the truck they are heading for the swap meet pile. Im a rectangular head light guy.I just think the rectangular head lights give the truck a more big and bad look. I think I have a problem with rectangular head lights. I cant seem to walk by them in the salvage yards.. I always end up buying them. So as it stands, I should have a life time supply of headlight setups for my pickups...... lol

I am not particular. My main thing is that the front matches the side trim. For example, I hate the large wide bottom chrome with a 78-79 grill. Likewise, I think the racetrack molding would look dorky with the 73 grill. The early ones have a more classic look, whereas the later style has more of a modern driver look. To answer the trivia question: the "square" ones would outshine the round ones

i used to like the rectangular ones better, but i think was mostly due to the fact that my first experience with these trucks was my dads '79. i have a '73 and i think if you look at it in just the right light, it looks like some kinda wide eyed psycho bearing down on you

My vote goes for the "square" lights. I think the '78 and '79 trucks with the rectangle lights are the best looking of seventys Fords. I think the 78's with round lights look dorky though.

i like the older split grills better, has more of a classic look. i'm not too fond of things that are modern as everyone keeps saying about the 78/79 grill. just my opinion, not that it matters.

I have a 77 F-250 ranger. when i had the truck repainted about 12 yrs ago i went to ford and bought all the front to convert to rectangular lights and the open grill. i have never regretted it since. Remember that only 2 yrs of this truck where made this way.

I like both, but I guess I lean to the rounds. My old 75 had a 78 clip on it, but the grill was cashed. Happened to be when they were doing RAGBRAI, a bicycle ride from border to border in Iowa, and they rode near my place. Well, usually these people don't have a lot of respect for the regular traffic, as there's a few thousand of them, so they should have the right of way for both lanes of a two lane road, right? (I'm amazed more of them haven't been hurt or killed yet!!!) Anyway, i had just stripped an old T/A, and was hauling the body to the crusher, and here's these crazy fools taking up the road. Well, with the grill knocked out, multicolored truck with leaking headers, loud as could almost legally be, they sure got out of my way, considering the old beast looked like it would eat them alive!!!! Never seen bicyclists get over so far
