Question 2001 Ford Ranger stereo system help :)

Hi guys,
I have a 2001 Ford Ranger, and I am trying to install an iPod in it like this guy:

http://www.ipodlounge.com/forums/sho...threadid=19754

But I need some help!

First of all I don't know how to remove the head unit. Can someone explain how to do this?

Secondly, I am looking for the "12v extensions" mentioned on this page so I can plug in the power adapter. Where can I find these?

If anyone can help me out I'd be really really thankful! I appreciate it!

thanks

Hey Matt,
I managed to pull off the part you were talking about, which incidentally also had the place where you disable the passenger air bag. I hope that was the right thing.

But when I look in there I don't see much. I'm also a car parts newbie so sorry about that

These "12v extensions" as mentioned in the article: Are they just wires or are they actually plugs that I could plug, say, a cigarette lighter into, if I wired it to go under the carpet and under the seat? If they are just wires, can I go to radio shack and get something that I could plug a car charger into?

Thanks again, I appreciate the help.

Dan

I added additional 12v outlets in my 2001 Ranger and documented it here:
http://home.alltel.net/seismo/aux_power.html
It's really easy and the great part is that the new power outlets are switched on and off with the ignition.

I've you've never done any wiring before this may be a little daunting and you might need to get assistance from someone a little more familiar with it. The only real danger is clipping your 12v line from the ignition and I'm not sure what all ramifications that would have...but it can't be good.

BTW, you might also want to consider adding your Ipod like this:
http://www.siriusbackstage.com/forum...192&highlight=
This page describes this guy's Sirius install but the 4th picture down shows his Ipod cradled in a CM652 as shown on this page:
http://www.arkon.com/multimediapdamount.html

I'm considering the CM622 shown here:
http://www.arkon.com/pdamount.html
for my Creative Nomad and mounting it to the side of the cup-holder console.

seismojones,
Thanks a lot for your help. I bought a single 12VDC adapter and I'm going to give it a whirl at installing it.

This is such a noob electronics question but will a voltmeter work through insulated cable? Otherwise how did you read the voltage off of the wires?

Thanks,
Dan

My voltmeter's probes have very sharp points so I just pierced the insulation with the hot lead (and just put the ground lead on any metal bracket you can find - it's most likely grounded).
