Got a problem with my 76 F100 302.While my distributor was being taken out the oil pump intermediate shaft came part way out, then fell into the oil pan, it was recoverd and replaced.BUT he removed the oil pump relief valve spring,( the round lock-washer looking thing).I am lost please check out my other thread and see what ive done and see if you can help.THANKS
If your talking about the little "C" clip that holds the intermediate shaft in place. Your fine without it, its purpose is to hold the intermediate shaft to the oil pump, so when you remove the distributor the shaft doesn't try and come out or drop in the pan. If this is in fact what your talking about, why didn't it hold yours in?
If your buddy messed with the relief valve on the oil pump, your oil psi would be really high or really low, is that the case. You seem to have a distributor and carb problem, from the other explanation you gave. later
The reason it didn't hold mine is he didn't know what he was doing and he kept pulling on it ,by the time I realized it ,to late.
I do have a distributor and carb problem, but I wanted to be sure about the shaft and the clip thing my book calls a "oil pump relief valve spring".My buddy didn't mess with the relief valve.
I replaced a lot of little parts because I wasn't getting fire to the plugs, now I have fire, but it won't catch. It back-fires through the carb.
I don't belive it is correct.I have a timing gun not a clue how to use it. I ajusted the carb and I didn't get a chance to mark the distributor befor he touched it. Might just have it towed and fixed.
THANK YOU !!!THANK YOU !!!

The distributor was 180. Fixed that ,got her started. Timing and carb were way off. Fixed that, now we are back on the road.
