Exclamation Help! Replacing E40D MLPS

I am trying to replace my MLPS before it starts raining and I have run into a problem. I am assuming the large nut that runs through the middle of the sensor that hold what I am assuming is the throttle cable off, but it does not want to budge. Am I correct in wrenching on it to break it lose? It has me worried because it moves that linkage when I try to break the nut lose. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

use a pair of pliers to hold the shift lever still while you carefully loosen the nut. try and keep the trans in neutral to easy in installation of the new MLP

Thanks, got that. Now the problem is getting the wires out of the old connector. Any hints on that or should I just smash it to pieces and break the wires out?

remove the red keeper inside the connector, then look inside and see the little clips that hold the wire ends in place, use a pick to move the clips and carefully pull out the wires, make sure and mark where they came from or just transfer one wire at a time to the new connector
note if you have a Ford part the instructions have the drawings that change view angles so dont be fooled. and make sure your battery is disconnected, if you touch two of the wires you can start your vehicle

mark down the wiring on the old connector on paper to refer back to if you have trouble

almost forgot, add dielectric gel inside the conector when you connect it, this will water proof the connection which is the main reason for the switch going bad usually

Thanks for the advice. I got the wires all out and the thing installed. Now the problem is that when starting it acts like it doesn't have enough power to turn the starter. If I hold the key to start it will turn over, pause, turn over, pause, etc. until it finally will turn over a few times and start. Does that sound like we somehow killed the battery while working on it or is something wired wrong? Thanks.

are you sure the wires are correctly installed into the new connector. it is easy to get a couple mixed up. Or you might not have the MLP aligned correctly. recheck you work and let me know what you find

I tried jump-starting my truck and it started fine. Would I be safe to assume the battery was somehow damaged? I am going to get it tested tomorrow, but that seems like the logical assumption to me. Thanks for you help.

Replaced the battery and it starts better than ever now. Must have somehow fried the old one. Lesson learned. Now to pull the codes again and see why I still have a check engine light coming on after 10 min of driving.
