Question please Help

i bought a aftermarket volt meter and at first it worked fine but after a month or so it started missing up, it like dances, and at an idle my lights get dim and it reads less than 6 volts , and turns my radio off and it is really driving me crazy i just replaced the altinator and it is still doing it please Help! thanks Trevor

grounded it to the frame and ran the positve to the fuse Box!

OK, and if you disconnect it, do your problems go away? If not, then you have some other problem - probably a bad cable from your alternator to the starter relay or battery, depending on how your truck is set up.

your voltmeter is actually working right. it will show the fluctuations you are experiencing. look for loose connections at the starter relay. if there was an ammeter factory installed there could be loose wires there.

Ampmeters are not supposed to go to ground, you are measureing DIRECT CURRENT, meaning if its chargeing the needle will move to the C if its connected right, DO not connect the other side to ground, you are just frying your alt and voltage regulator....

thanks for the info yeah my stock ampmeter is still hooked up i will try that thanks and my instructions on the aftermarket voltmeter it says to ground it to the frame and i kinda fixed it i just grounded it to the frame better but it is still doing it a little bit!
