So my check engine light came on the other day, and threw a OBD scanner on, I got a cylinder 7 misfiring with the code P0307, and on the display the icons O2S and HTR were flashing. Can anyone help me diagnose these so I can get my Beast running tip top.
Cylinder 7 misfire says it all. Swap the cylinder 7 coil with another cylinder (a 5 minute task) and recheck the code. If code is still on cylinder 7, replace the plug. Otherwise, replace the coil (that you just moved to another cylinder).
Once the cylinder is firing normally again, the other items should just go away.
A lot of the hand held code readers will have an emissions readiness check which explains the flashing symbols. The Ex doesn't complete the same OBD2 drive cycle which tests the major components like other vehicles do. You will most likely always have those flashing.
Like Bass says - check the #7 cylinder and do the basic troubleshooting. If you haven't had a tuneup in a while then it would be good to do a plug and COP boot change.
Most likely a bad COP or COP boot.
Remove the COP and visually inspect for cracks or anything unusual.
Swap with another cylinder (take the front ones so it is easy to replace later) and see if the misfire follows. Then swap the coil. Only use motorcraft coils. Rockauto has good prices.
