I was told by a guy at Ford Racing that the stock 400 crank can handle up to 600HP if you knife edge, debere, and polish it. Dose any one know if this is true or not. I trust the guys at Ford Racing but all of the guy that are into 400's that knoe say the crank will come apart if you go over 400HP.
not sure about the 400 crank, I know it has longer stroke, and bigger main bearings, but being that it is a 335 series engine, maybe my situation is close, I am running a 351c factory crank, and pushing 550+hp. I didn't knife edge it but debured, and polished, chambfer the oil holes etc. I did destroy my crank but that was because of a rod bearing not the cranks fault.
Also on the cleve forum several guys are running 400s with well over 400hp without problems
ok has any one heard of a large problem with ford crank failure??
i have not usually a thrown rod or cracked block/head
now i heard (prob here) that ford cranks are made in the peru plant with a higher silica and nickel and is as strong as a steel after-market one
seems reasonable to me
but knive-edging is nice
the thing is stronng and seasoned
