I got another Bronco!

I was driving home frome autozone with my new timing chain and there it was! It is a 90 Eddie Bower, automatic e4od, 351. The engine was rebuilt a year ago or so. It runs like a champ. What a difference from a 302! The best part is it has electric locks and windows and the a/c works great. I got it dirt cheap, only $1675. I did notice that it has no front drive shaft. I was turning the yoke and the axles will turn a couple of inches each way and stop. Does this mean that the hubs are locked? How can I tell if the auto-hubs are locked without putting on a front drive shaft? Thanks You can see the pics of my new one in my gallery.

Congrats on the purchase. Logic tells me that the hubs would be locked, as indicated by the stoppage. Auto hubs huh? No driveshaft, huh? I really think you should ask the previous owner about this. The only conceiveable reasons for the above (to me, at least) would be 1.) the front gears do not match the rears, or 2.) the gears in the front grenaded, and instead of rebuilding, simply took the driveshaft out of the equation. But hey, I could be wrong, and the front shaft could have been removed for something simple like the bronco was towed behind an RV.

Could it be that someone took it off because the hubs were stuck? I really don't have time to check it out now because I am still into the timing on my other. Even if the 4-wheel is toast it is not that big of a deal because with the new 4-10's in my 88 it does all the off-roading. I will use this new one just on the road.

Another thing I noticed is that it will go into reverse pretty hard. I think it is a e40d because the o/d option is electric. It shifts great and no sliping it is just when you put it in reverse it makes a loud clunk. Any ideas?

Congrats. I also just got a 90 EB about a month ago.. It only had 72K and one owner. Car fax verified. Very clean and everything works. I had to do a few things.

I replaced the exhaust manifold. Had a crack. Valve cover gasket because of slight leak. Same side as the exhaust manifold so i think the hot air was blowing on gasket.

Of course I did the cap, rotor, wires, plus, filters and O2 senor. The truck ran a little ruff so I cleaned the throttle body and used sea foam to get rid of carbon build up. Runs pretty smooth now. I put larger 31" all terrain tires on as well.

I also had to replace the stock stereo.
