Does fuel spit out of the filler tube when filling up ?
My truck always shoots a fuel out through the filler tube(enough to leave a little puddle on the ground) if I leave the pump clicked on and do something and don't pay attention ....
Is there any way to prevent this ?
Just depends on how sensative the pressure shutoff is on the pump you use. It still happens to me after harpooning the tank--actually a little more since it fills up more and quicker.
I tried lifting the bed and crawling under.
I just tried removing the sender lid, and it is really on there !!! Wood and hammer aren't doing much ... Also tried an oil filter remover.
I used a large screwdriver and a hammer and it took alot of force to loosen it and alot of time because you can only get it to move a very small amount at a time.
It's even a longer job when you try to thread it back on after your done.
What kind of work was involved in putting the cap back on ?
Because I read others are warming the cap up / microwave, etc. But I lifted my bed so I did not disconnect the fuel lines and the cap will stay with the assembly when unscrewed.
Completed the mod and will try filling up soon.
As for the cap, I had to take a fine saw and cut the cap in half so it would expand enough. I then screwed it on my hand until resistance was felt. I put a 7 inch hose clamp around the plastic lid and then gave it a few swings with a piece of wood and a hammer. The cap aligned back were it was when I took it off and maybe a little tighter !!!
It should be sturdy as the clamp is stronger than the plastic and it will allow easier future removals if needed.
Some may question the seal. Well the cap seals by applying pressure from top to bottom and not with the threads or lateral pressure of the cap.
Yikes! That sounds harder than it's supposed to be. Well, you're done and your fill will go better now. You'll still have to trickle in the last 2-3 gallons, but that beats the heck of out trickling in the last 5-8 gallons!
