I'm an old newby at this forum stuff so be tolerant if my ignorance please.
I have a 77 F250 XLT Highboy and would appreciate any information concerning it. It has two VIN numbers, one on the door and one on the strike plate side.
The one on the door is F268NX88733, body DUH, F260, Trans 6, axle 24J, Max lbs 06750, 1977 25, WB 133.
The one on the cab is F15JNO 25612 TRUCK.
The truck is 4 wd, automatic, power assisted steering, 1 ton chasis, 460 engine with 600 Holly 4 barrel, New Process 205 transfer, Dana 44 front & Dana 60 rear axles wirh 410 ratio.
Thanks
Ed
It's all factory original except for a new step bumper and grill.
Any attempt to decode the VIN# on the internet fails, even the Ford site.
What do I call it? F2501/2 or F260?
Thanks
Ed
I think the "F260" in the vin code means that the truck is a F250 4x4. I'm pretty sure that the 2wd F250s had F250 in the vin and the 4wds had F260 in the vin. As far as your truck having different vin codes on the door and on the cab, this probably means that at some point in its life, your truck was rebuilt using parts from another truck.
I was told by the owner that the truck was special ordered from the factory with this configuration but sometimes people fib. Anyway, I like the truck, it's in good shape and very strong. I have people coming to the house to see it.
Is is very obvious that either the door or cab was swapped. If the axles are 3/4 ton I am betting the cab was replaced. If the axles are 1/2 ton I am betting the door or doors were replaced. Ford would NEVER have built a factory truck this way.
if the cab is from 72 and the door is from 77 youll be able to tell if some one changed it the body style would be different!!!i have a 78 lowboy with the snowfighter package that has the f260 in the vin with the build sheet and it says mine was made in canada!!
