That refers to the size of the blower. I don't know exactly where it came from but the 8-71 can supply more pressure and volume with less blower speed.
It came from the use of the blower on a detroit diesel. The 8-71 means 8 cylinders, 71 cubic inches per cylinder. That was the original use of the blower. So a 6-71 would be for a 6 cylinder 71 cubic inch per cylinder engine.
Superchargers and blowers are nice but just think about a couple of those turbos you see an the IHRA drag cars, what fun when you pull up to the light beside a little Jap Trap rev the motor and hear that whistle, oh how fun it is to dream.....but ill rebuild the engine first.
