Is gear drive for my `67 352 a nice idea. Will this help my engine run cooler, not that it runs hot or anything. I just like my cooling system to be in constant superior running order.
A gear drive is for more accurate cam timing it will not affect engine temperature. The FE does not seem to do well with a gear drive, there have been several failures noted on these forums.
I just thought that if i run gear drive for superior timing it might help the engine run better thus allowing for better cooling. Nothing major. Gear drive in 352 sounds nice to me.
A company should make a bad *** gear set from cnc'd heat treated 4130. I don't know but what the hell. L8R
i know in chevy's that gear drives put stress on the valvetrain. a good timing chain will provide you with many years of dependable use and cost a fraction of the price.
Just go out and but Good true roller timing set...The one I just bought for my project is made by RollMaster Down under in Assie land Made from Billet and Nitrite hardened..and has a top of the line chain made in germany...9 keyways too boot!
gear drives transmitt crank shaft harmonics into the valve train.
so, your timinig is dead on, but you're ratteling the heck out of everything else.
I'm with Russ, the RollMaster units are nice.
I have never ran a pete jackson or the like type of gear drive, So I cant say personally...But all the fe rodders I have talked to about them, have told me they dont work with FE's....they transfer any and all Harmonics from the crank into the valvetrain...and that makes the valvetrain very unhappy being used like a tuning fork!
Like I had said in an earlier post..I bought the Rollmaster True Roller timing set for my build..And its nice,Made from billet, Nitrite hardened,9 keyway sets for timing!!
I got mine on ebay for $69 + $9 shipping......Russ
Danny Bee makes a beautiful belt drive system for the FE that solves both problems. Accurate timing, without passing harmonics to the valvetrain. Right around $950.
