Okay I am need of some running gear for my 73 f250 4x4. It has the np435 205, Dana 60, 44. I have 3 broken teeth on my rear ring gear. and the tranny doesnt sound good, front drive line is shot. I found two f250 4x4s 1972. for about $350 for the one thats knocks, says far as he knows the running gear is okay. Which years can I interchange I know the 77.5-79 has the married cases but that wouldnt be a problem. I just want to know which years I can swap running gear as a bolt in option.
If im not mistakin 67-77.5 F-250 4wds (highboys) will interchange. As far as axles any 73-79 front will work but try to get a disc front. They are way better. As far as the rear youll need to find a pre77.5 becasue of the narrower frame width. You can use a later model but youll have to cut off the spring perches and weld new ones where you need them
up to 79 will be bolt in. Anything solid axle 80 or later will have a wider mounting location. The axle itsself is not wider just the distance between the spring perches.
Lets not forget the front driveshaft if a High pinion front axle is used under a 77 or older truck. Since all of these trucks will have had a remote mount case, they never had this configuration with a high pinion axle, so a driveshaft will have to be made.
I know not a big deal, but you will not find a front driveshaft from a donor truck that will bolt right up.
The difference in u-joint location from a low pinion to a high pinion is quite a bit.
Angles sure do look real nice though after this is done.
Should see how much has to be removed when removing a low pinion D44 and upgrading to a HP D60.
Just thought I would throw that out there since I did not see it mentioned.
I dont know I have 4:10s in it right now so any thing close will be alright with me I am planning putting the whole running gear under mine so it shouldnt effect it unless the other truck is really high geared which I really doubt. BUt if it is the 390 I got should push it okay still.
yeah I have the 409 in front so I figured it would be 410s in the rear. So with a 78 front axles will my steering setup still work? I have manual steering with the pitman arm on the side of my frame I thought the 77.5 79 would require me to change to setup to a cross drag link?
