'97 explorer xlt, 5.0 AWD. bought used w/ 32K from local dealer back in 6/99. Currently has 195K and counting. Replaced engine oil, plugs & wires, PCV value, brake pads, rotors, pistons, calipers, back shocks and fuel filter myself (most of which of pretty easy). The only time it's been in the shop was to replace tires, front struts, alignment, tranny oil and some A/C plug (5 dollars) in the engine area. Currently working on replacing an ERG tube, driver side rear door is stuck closed (Child Lock engaged, does anyone know how to fix this?), and possible a exuast manifold leak on the passenger side. I really feel blessed with the reliabilty i've had with this SUV.
138000 on my '99 xplorer. I wish i could say still running perfect but i seem to have developed a leak of atf in the radiator. Still trying to figure out a fix. but other than that my milage is still great. 22-23 mpg.
AC cold air turns HOT on acceleration .. I have read the blend door thread and I have gotten one suggestion about fuses ... I'll investigate then both .. do u know of anything else I should take a look at?
I have 92, 4wd, 2 door (sport), 5 speed with 379,300 miles on it! Original motor, heads have never been off of it! I replaced the valve cover gaskets about 60k ago but they started leaking again. I now have a bit of valve rattle in it that comes in at 2200 rpm in a slight hill climb and does not go away but gets worse as you put your foot into it. If I take it down under 2000 rpm, I can climb a steep grade in fifth with no rattle. I think there is a vacuum leak behind the dash that could be the cause. I don’t know where the SPOUT connector is yet but after I fix the vacuum leak I will check the base timing if it does not get better.
I've got 265,000 on my '91 5 spd sport. Have some lifter noise (sounds like a diesel) but other than that she runs like a charm! Burns no oil and gets fairly reasonable gas mileage. Had to replace the front pads, rotors, calipers and locking hubs due to a melt down while pulling my trailer and 5 friends on an extraordinarilly hot day. I love my 'big red' even thinking of putting a lift on her so I can get some real meat on my rims!
Ex. company 95 4x4 sport 4l ohv. All original 277,000km 166,000miles. My boss's truck, had all the service reciepts. I had it for almost 3 years now.Only thing I replaced was lower ball joints. My boss replaced the EGR controller and normal wear and tear items earlier. Nothing major since I took over. It was a bargain to buy and cost very little to keep, what a deal.
I thought i should add our vehicle is running smooth as can be after 90,000 miles. I change the oil regulary with royal purple 5w-30 and i changed the transmission fluid (completely on a machine) with royal purple fluid. I also put royal purple in the rear end. As for the cooling system I drained it all and put one bottle of water wetter in and the rest distilled water and it works great even stays jsut a bit cooler than normal. As for gas I only use shell premium v-power 93 octane. (let's not get into a octanewar that's what i use and will continue to use in all my vehicles) I also have a jet 180 thermostat in the thing too. ONly other problem has been the dreaded IAC problem.
I have a 97' explorer limited with the V8 5.0 and it has a little over 175,000 miles on it and everything is original and it runs great! I love this car!!!
