I have a 74 fe motor 360 , the rotor is not the correct one and I question the cap . according to napa they are . the rotor tab is too wide for the distributor shaft slot ( this is a mag pick up dist . ) distributor part # is motorcraft D4HE 12127 oa . found the D4HE code , have not been able to find the rest . I have found napa to be wrong before on parts . any Ideas .

is the cap wide and flat?? if so it may be the cap and rotor off of a 302 some guys that use high voltage coils have a problem with crossfiring in the small diameter caps so they use a 302 spacer cap and rotor.

no , it is the standard 3 1/2 or so high cap . the rotor is the real problem . does not push all the way down due to to large of a inside tab and therefore hits the plastic on the cap at the electrodes and chips the cap . wierd .
if you have the old stuff i would take it there and show them what you need. they might be wrong or you just have a odd ball part !
thanks every one , I found a motorcraft site which identified it all , the dist is an original 1974 ( D4HE ) D=1970 , 4= 1974 , h= heavy truck , e = engine component , 12127 ca = dist. ca I don't know , there was a ta and a ca . this will be the second time Napa had wrong part #'s in there computor or a bad manufactored part . When I had to replace my heater core , it was also wrong , the right one was listed under a chevy ( God , forgive them ) number , and no , it was not a chevy part , it also had the motorcraft part # on it.
Strange, I looked in my '79 Motor's Truck Repair manual - lists all the Ford dizzy's up to '74 - couldn't find your's anywhere. One thing I noticed, the only DxHE parts were for the FT or 401/475/477/534
Is there any time a 360 or "regular" FE was put into a "Heavy" truck?
Is it possible you should have tried to get a rotor for a Ft361/391 ???

the motorcraft web site listed this dist. for the 74 f100 up to and including the f350 . took the part # to another auto store and had them cross it over . it brought up a different part # , the parts were the same but the cost was more , so I am thinking that I just did not push the rotor down hard enough , never had one before though where the shaft had to cut into the plastic tab a 1/16th of an inch on each side , but the new parts fit and are working .
