The valve lash is supposed to be .015, but i disagree, i personally don't adjust mine that way. The way i adjust mine, is run it, and with a socket wrench back it off until it taps, then tighten in just slightly until tapping stops, that way you compensate for your engines oil thickness, your weather, and the wear you may have on your rocker shaft, i also time both of mine by hand, because of using unleaded fuels, i advance it out to the point to where it runs its fastest, then retard until it wont clatter when you're running it hot. Everyone else use your gauges, but i do it this way, because it's the right way!!.What most people don't realize is that when those specs were written, that was in the fifties right after they dropped the flathead, and it was 50 degress outside and they were using old time, non detergent straight 30 weight oil and timing was based on the leaded fuels around way way way back then, those specs by book aren't worth the paper they are written on, sorry...Janet
312, he does deserve to have the right specs, (wake up Janet), i actually forgot the timing, because i guess im lucky, and both my Yblock cars haven't given me any trouble at all and it's going on 3 years for both. I just see so many folks with worn Yblocks, and slack in timing chains, sorry fuel at fuel stations, and so many Yblockers have bad bad rockers. Can you believe i've been lucky on both Y cars for 3 years?? Other than me changing plugs and points..I forgot to add i changed to delco remi alternators, called the self exciter one post...Janet
