just wonderin......
sometimes, when i go to take off, my truck acts like it has NO power, like when i floor it, it acts like im barely hittin the gas, so i was wonderin if that could be the fuel pump or filter, or maybe a loss of power from the leaky valve cover gaskets. and yesterday, when i took off, not even floorin it, it backfired like 3 times. not a major deal, my mechanic is supposed to look at it while we go on vacation, i was just wonderin if there was somethin relatively easy that i can do to make myself not look like an idiot when i pull into traffic.
any help, or ideas would be great.
thanks yall

back firing can be a sign of the timing being off ,possibly the belt jumped a tooth, this will also cause loss of power.what year is your truck,? what engine? how many miles?
Is this a contsant problem or once in a while? I can tell you its not caused by your valve cover gasket either way.It sounds more like an electronic problem.
Oh yeah, are you getting any engine codes? Auto-zone will read them for free. The check engine light does'nt have to be on for you to be getting a trouble code. These codes will help find the problem, such as MAF sensor, bad fuel injector, etc.
freakin electrical problems....... how do i check the timing, i know stupid question, but ive never had to do it before, and it only does it when i first take off, through first gear
Hummm, Is it a automatic, could it be the torque converter is not working right? I don't know much about autos, just an idea. I think the backfire is the key, timing on either the valves or the ign. Has it backfired anymore?
Dave
nope no back fire, , but since i dont have exhaust on it, i can hear it kinda making a chugging noise like it wants to stall or something when i take off. if i let off the gas, its ok until i try to go again. and it seems to take a little longer to shift outa first than it should. any ideas on somethin i can do? and its an automatic 2.9, with everything rebuilt in the last year except the rear end.
ill try to pull the codes on monday after work. the check engine light just came on tonite, so ill find my code reader and check it out tomorrow and let yall know
