2 of the wrist pin clips holding them in broke and the wrist pins made a 1/4'' groove up the sides of the walls

Well, considering that .080" is usually the max for most blocks, and you've got to go at LEAST .25" to clean it up, I'd say that block is shot. Time to hit the junkyards.

thats terrible news fordgashog. i'm pretty sure that the block is scrap ! thats a big gouge to try and fix !
