I seem to have come across a 428 FE. I was just wondering if anybody knows how I can find out exactly what this engine is. These are some numbers I found on the block:
C7ME-A
84 DIF
352
48 (There is a large X beside these numbers)
Any info or links to info would be greatly appreciated!
Yes I did measure the bore and stroke 3.98 x 4.13.
The only listing I found on the net for a C7ME-A was that
it is a 428 police interceptor. Is that what the -A means. What about the large X cast in the lifter valley, I read somewhere that that means it is originally out of a muscle car, is this true.
FE block casting numbers in most cases are worthless. The A indicated a certian revision of the casting I believe. The best way to really tell what you have when possible, is by checking the internal components. Crank, rods (rod bolt size), flywheel, dampener, and of course bore and stroke tell the real story. It sounds like you have a geniune 428. Does the block have triple main webbing, if so it's a PI, CJ, or service block of some sort. Later truck blocks had it as well. If you measured the bore though you should be OK. You could also go to feford.com and search for "drill bit test".
