That casting number could be found on several FE engines. Some 428s did have that but many more 390s did also. Pay no attention to it. Measure the bore and see what you have.
i picked a C7ME block out from behind someones grove, it turned out to be a 390, its more than likely its a 390, doesnt the M mean it came out of a mercury?
It was originally cast as a Mercury block, but it could have been sold in either a Ford or a Mercury. As was said, my book shows it as being either a 67-70 428, or a 330MD FT block. I'd say it's probably the 428, but check the bore to make sure. Books aren't ALWAYS right.
My C7ME-A is a 410. Like Sean said, you can't tell what it is without popping the pan to see if it has a 3.98" stroke crank (1U, etc.) or measuring the stroke with a dowel, and then you still have to measure the bore. Ford used that casting for just about everything in that vintage. But good luck, you might have a goodie! Steve
where are you guys getting its either a 410 or 428, like a previously posted, i found the same block in someones grove all original and it was a 390, yes it could be a 410/428 but it could also be a 390.
I show the same thing....in my book it says 67/70 428...if it is at the 390 bore? ya might have it sonic tested..it may be it will take a 4.130 bore and make it a 428?
