Hello All! I need some assistance... I just got a cargo light and the pull switch that mounts near the lower right side of the steering wheel... here's the problem/ question... I do not have a wire harness for the option, but I do have the "Detroit Iron CD manual for my 71 F100, could anyone simplify the harness for me? Has anyone else gone through the process of installing a cargo light on their non-cargo light equipped truck? Any sugestions / tips?
just put one on mine. if i remember correctly, the switch is self grounding. just run a hot wire to one side of the switch, and then run the other side of the switch to the light and then ground the light. its pretty simple. i had a lot of trouble at first. i had to end up taking my switch apart and fixing it.
Your cigar lighter probably has a male spade connector, undo it, make a small harness with one male and two female connectors, plug it into the cigar lighter harness and run one female to the cigar lighter and one to the cargo lamp switch.
Or to make it real simple, run a wire from your dome lamp out to the back of the cargo lamp (since they are opposite of each other) and turn both on with the headlamp switch or by opening the door. Just not something to do while driving.
There is a multiple female connector on the left side of the steering column behind the cluster. It should be hot all the time. This is what you plug the male connector on the cargo light harness into. The second wire runs up the LH windshield post and across the roof to the light.
