Something else to try that used to be a foolproof way to catch big carp in the Ohio River was to make doughballs out of Wheaties (yes, the cereal) and adding a little bit of vanilla. Blue Cats and Channel Cats will also eat these doughballs. Just grab a handfull of Wheaties, dip em in the water, crush em up some, dip em again, and pour the vanilla extract (a good amount) into the flakes and them crush it up in your hand. You stick that on a treble hook, and it won't come off very easily. Kinda glues together onto the hook. Give it a shot, works like a champ for me.
Peach, what happened?? How many did ya land?? If you are in shallow, still water, try a float and hook with white bread for bait. We call this the "floating bread technique". We fish the small creeks and local canal during the summer at around 6PM to dark. We start the event by breaking up part of a standard sliced loaf of store-bought white bread and chum the water near the carp. You shouldn't crush the bread or it won't float. Put the same bread on your hook and gently toss it out in the chum area. Make sure you don't crush your bait, you want it to float. Then sit back and quietly watch as the carp start coming up and sucking up the bread. It is exciting to see a big 32 inch carp slurp up 4 pieces of bread around your float, and you know any minute it will hit your bait. The beauty of it is...you see them coming, it usually starts with a few swirls in the water, they come up smell the food and then spook away. They can't resist for long. They come back, hit a few pieces with confidence, and proceed in a line thru the water. As you watch your only baited hook, a big dark fish starts nosing up right underneath then POW!! The carp runs, the float sinks, the rod slides halfway into the water, and the fun begins.
well..didnt do very good with the carp fishing..caught some cat and panfish..but i tried and tried with the carp..idk what i am doing wrong..maybe its a lake?i was in a boat..um..didnt even see many carp..just dont know
Try this. Use to work for me. Get a burlap bag, put dry dog food and a couple of bricks in it (to sink the bag) tie bag closed with a lenght of rope. Take bag to where be will be fishing 2 or 3 days before you go. Dog food gets soft they suck it trough burlap.
