going fishin tomorow, thinking about maybe some carp fishing..never really tried to catch carp on purpose..but they are fun to catch..any one have any baits that i might have around the house to use..and how to use them?
I didnt realize you could actually eat those..I thought they were a "junk" fish.
I know that *I* cant eat 'em. When I was in high school, there was a aquduct behind our baseball field. Well, the city, county, or whoever ran the thing, decided one year that it'd be a fantastic idea to drain it.
Well, hundreds of HUGE carps were exposed, either on dry ground or in some sizeable puddles left on the bottom. Some people fished for them, but mostly large birds would pick them up and drop fins, scales, eyes, lips, heads and innards allllll over our diamond. Every time I hear "carp" I think of that horrrrrible smell and all the flies. Rotting fish in Bakersfield's summer heat is no joy to behold.
We use to go carp fishing near Philly airport when we where kids. They would never bite in the spring or early summer, I think they where spawning. but in January and February is was great. 3 footers on light tackle for a city boy was a lot of fun. We tried all kinds of crazy baits but the thing that worked the best was corn meal ***** with vanilla extract.
Good Luck!!!
Dough ***** and chicken giblets are good for bait. Otherwise just fish for annything else. Carp are all I ever catch anyway. Spearing them is way more fun, but it's the wrong time oof year for that. Also, they are best when smoked, otherwise I wouldn't eat them either. YUK!
around here if u were "purposely" fishing for carp, people would think ur crazy! people will often go fishing and bring a .22 with (highly illegal considering its a refuge) and shoot the carp as the swim by.
but if u are gunna try it, id do like Tim said....DYNAMITE.
Here in Idaho, Snake river, we catch them in March. They like to get in water about a foot or so deep near the bank. We drift along in a boat, just casting a weighted jig, ripping it through the water. I once caught a 23 pounder on 8 lb test, my friend couldn't believe it. Drug the canoe about 1/4 mile upstream (slow current) in about half an hour. I have seen them up to 4 feet long. Going salmon fishing tomorrow, S. fork of the Salmon river. 4 footers there, too, but not carp! Yeeeeeha.
strawberry doughball,,,,,1 box strawberry jello, 1cup cornmeal, 1\2 cup flour,a few tbs sugar, mix dry, add water untill real runny, microwave on high for 5 min, remove, add a few tbs vanilla extract, or , 1 tbs ,anise, kneed all together, if not firm heat for a few more min. dump out on foil, & put in fridge, can be used in a 1\2 hr or so. keep cool, can be used for a few more days, kneed in a little water if neeeded. good luck. We fish the Ohio river, usually after a rain, & get near a drainage pipe, use a large piece of DB, and hang on...
a couple cans of corn(not creamed-long story )and cornmeal. Find where the carp are and spread the area with the corn nibblets and then use the cornmeal to make a "ball" over the hook. some around here, bypass the cornmeal and just put some niblets on the hook.
I catch them on crickets. I trade them to the black fishermen for Catfish. I can trade about 50 pounds of carp for 30 pounds of catfish. Can catch 50 pounds of carp in a couple of hours. Fun to fight the things. They put up a good fight, if you use lighter tackle.
