My 77 f100 with 351m continues to run hot after a recent engine swapp. I installed a rebuilt engine from Advance Auto. I have a new water pump, new radiator, new thermostat, new hoses, new fan clutch. My mechanic friend says that maybe exhaust is leaking into the water jacket and causing it to get hot? There is no sign of water in the oil. I have a small leak in the intake manifold on the back side were it is flat. Could that be my problem?
If the ex. is leaking into the rad. you can smell it with the cap off & it more than likely would be boiling over. I would do a pressure check on the cooling system first.
The temp gauge is not hooked up yet! the water boils out of the radiator!!! I have only drove it to work twice and it got so hot the engine started boiling the oil through the intake manifold leak. What should the preasure be on the radiator? Or are you refering to puting preasur on the radiator to see if it leaks air through the engine?
The old engine did not run hot. What I mean by continuous is that I have not fixed the problem yet. The intake manifold gasket is pinched where it mates to the block on the rear side. There is a small amount of air leaking through it. Would the leak cause the boil over or do you think the intake leak was caused by preasure and it blew out the weakest point of the intake gasket?
