Does anyone know when they started to go to the 16 inch tire on the Explorer?

Nope. Limited didn't get 16" rims until 1999. Only available on the EB and Expedition models in 1995.

 

Ok, thanks for the replies, but it leads me to another question. Does anyone know the diff between the "limited" and the XLT?

The XLT can come with the majority of items on the Limited, and each Limited has different features depending on how it was sold. My 1999 Limited came with Leather with adjustable head rests, 6way power seats, heated seats, heated rear view mirrors, reverse senors, running boards with lights, rear view mirrors with puddle lamps, moon roof, front & rear climate control and radio controls, the 5.0 V8 with AWD, privacy tint, cruise control, heat & radio controls on the steering wheel, compass, mach 1 audio system, and some styling on the exterior. Which most of these you can get on the XLT, it just bumps up the cost.

NO!!!!! limiteds and EB 1996 up had 16s on them!!!!

sorry i just felt i needed to clear that up.

 

I do know for a fact that at least in '96 & '97 the EB did have 16" tires. I helped install a body lift on a friend's '96 EB that came stock with 16" wheels and when I bought my '97, several of the EBs I was looking at had 16" wheels on them as well. I don't think the Limiteds ever came with 16" wheels though.

i have a 96 explorer with 16s on it the stock ones with limited on the center of the rims and my father has a 97 limited with stock 16s on it and the limiteds are nicer than the EB'S so they SHOULD have bigger rims an tires on them the 95 explorer limiteds have 15s on them cuz ford carried over the limited rims from the 91-94 explorer limiteds and in 1996 they went to the 16s and from then on the limiteds have had 16s on them....

my point is this 1996 AND UP EXPLORER LIMITEDS AND EBS HAVE 16S ON THEM
