please help with 93XLT questions
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 12-Oct-02 AT 01:10 AM (EST)]Hi everyone i was hopeing you could help me out my friend has a 93XLT with the 4.0L V-6 and it has started to make a loud clicking aroung the valve cover on the right side of the engine, only when put into drive or under a load but sounds fine in park even if you rev it only under a load, i wanted to know if this was a common problem with explorers or if its just bad luck, if you can think of anything let me know i will also post in the engine forum plus if maybe you could tell me the common problems with the 93 so i know what to look for that would be a big help. THANKS

Is it valve or lifter ticking or does it sound more like spark knock/engine ping? Engine ping (from running lean) is a common complaint on the 4.0 L OHV. Usual fixes include: cleaning the Mass Air Flow sensor, replacing the engine coolant temperature sensor, fixing any vacuum leaks, retorquing lower intake manifold bolts/replacing lower intake gaskets.
