i'm thinking about putting on a 3" straight pipe from cat back and out at a 45 by the corner of the bumper, just wondering if anyone else has done it and if they notice any difference like responsive and with pulling ? thanks
If you do that setup I would sure like to know how loud it is! I have a '94 F250 with a 460 that is quieted by the cat and a Flowmaster 40, and the system dumps directly after the muffler. The sound on my truck is fairly loud, but could stand a bit more volume for my taste. I am sure my neighbors would disagree.....
Hello,
I just bought a Dynomax HD superturbo muffler with 3" in and 3" out. It's Jeg's part number 289-17789 This thing is 3 foot long and 8+" round. ( I know what Crock Dundee would say when he saw my muffler; "now THAT'S a muffler!!!") From the info on the side of the box, it's supposed to be just a little louder than stock muffler and compared to straight pipes it increases torque slightly at lower rpms and loses just a little at higher rpms. The best part of the deal. $77 or $84.00 with their handling fee.
I have a canadian '87 f350 without Cat w/460, 4x4, 5 speed, crew cab. I have headman headders that I am going to probably drill and weld air tube nuts on. I'll drop 3" to 2 1/2" with header reducers, then loop up inside the transmission support to a flowmaster 2 1/2" into 3" y pipe. From there it will send gasses through a 3" pipe to feed the muffler. I had true duals on before that were outside the frame to stay away from the side fuel tank. I had lots of problems keeping them up. I'm looking forward to a more stock exhaust that still will perform well. I don't plan to have to rev over 4000, so although there are a couple reductions, I think it will flow well. 3" pipe is alot of volume!!!

I hacked the muffler off my 94 and let the exhaust dump under the bed after the cat. Wasn't as loud as I thought it would be, but sounded pretty good. After hacking off the muffler I had a little bit of back fire when shifting which blew the guts out of my cat after awhile. I then put a FM 40 series on and had it exit in front of the rear wheel. Sounded better than nothing at all on there.
