Reason: forgot info
They got even wiser than that! My 2003 1/2 has a completely sealed computer. There are no openings like on the old ones where you can put a chip, no contacts accessible anywhere. You can't even open the box because it is welded shut except for the 104 pin plug that goes to the engine compartment.
Ive got a 1995 F150 and i've added a superchip to the computer. When installing the pin had a protective coating and had to be removed. My opinion is that if they have a coating on them, and they used the protective coating so they don't get activated. By cleaning the pins the ford motor company can tell if you have added to the computer or one has been added. I know that if you are having a problem with the check engine light coming "on" you are to remove the chip to see if the problem is solved. If not then you can use your scanner to locate the problems

That's ok though, the power programmer will still work on it. Someday Diablo will have their tuner available for the 5.4L. It's not that big of a deal, I was lucky enough to have bought the biggest gas V8 Ford has to offer on the 250...
...And what if they find wear? don't they still have to prove that the part actually caused and harm to void the warranty of that particular part?
Not anymore. Ford is looking for any way they can to reduce warranty expense. Ford's warranty specifically excludes coverage due to modification, so all they have to do is prove that your modification could be RELATED to the problem, and you're done. What they can't do is void coverage to non-related parts on the truck. If you put a chip in and the tailgate falls off, they can't deny warranty coverage to the tailgate, for example.
I've said it before, and I'll say it again: you can't have your cake and eat it, too. If you want to maintain warranty coverage on your truck, then hold off on these mods till AFTER your warranty expires.
FYI ... I just looked in my manual and found that they (FORD) specificallly names chips and tuners as a means of voiding your warranty. Never noticed that b4 ... now that really blows.
