Any chip/tuner/mods that increases power SHOULD void your warranty in my opinion, at least for the drivetrain... especially some of these diesels

The Ford dealer I bought my '96 t-bird from (new) was pretty cool about me putting in a SuperChips. They even did some emissions diagnostics with the thing plugged into the computer and never gave me a problem (I told the guy it was in there to avoid any problems up front).

It all depends on who you are dealing with...

I am still amazed at how some dealers jump through hoops for warranty work (like mine) and others refuse to even touch it.

Makes one wonder what drives them...

Reaching pretty low on that one I think.
Believe it ....The are looking to see service history reports to see if diagnostic work was ever done then if there wasn't why are your pins worn???? Trust me I wan't a module as bad as the next guy but if this is the case i'll stick with my cat back system and air-raid intake.....

What might the computer chip have to do with the check engine light. Would this chip give lean codes to the computer? Serveral of us have been talking about this problem on a different topic.

They'll have a hell of fight on their hands if they pull that with me. Diagnostics could be run by any service facility. Or even by someone else's programer that couldn't load into my truck.

I'd fight it. In any case I wish your buddy the best of luck.

There is a easy solution to this problem. If Ford would embrace the aftermarket parts "market" they would win too. Diablo and superchips are able to safely get more power out of engine and make tranny's more effiecient. The draw back is using high octane fuel and the uncomfortable feel of a very firm shift. These are not good selling points to 95% of vehicle buyers. Now if these items were a dealer installed option, weather diable or superchips...of even if ford got into the mix and made a power flash for themselves......or is this too simple a solution. The reason why I bring this up....there is a local Ford dealer near me. Family Ford in chicopee MA, that is installing Banks Power kits on trucks. Everything from the exhaust only kit, stinger kit, and the power kit. I am sure Ford would not be happy with this dealership if they found out. This dealership STILL honors the factory warrenty after they install the kits.

I saw one of those in a 1/2 ton with a tuner run on the dyno. Impressive, around 300 HP at 5500 RPM!

This is just another nonsense rumor meant to stir people up.

Every inspection station plugs into your port. Every time you take your truck into the Ford shop they plug into the port. How are they going to measure wear? To what standard are they going to declare excessive wear? Guys, think this stuff through before you publish this rot.

I think he's talking about the 20 pin card-edge connector ON the computer itself, not the diagnostics port. 300 HP is great but what are you going to be doing at 5500 RPM? My truck never sees anything north of 2000 rpm.

In other words if you don't own a diesel you can't play too. Is that what you are saying?

Well, Choctaw Bob does have a 6.0L PSD in his truck. Is he not considered a "diesel owner" ? Besides, diesels are not the only engines being run by a computer and that you can chip or flash. There are 3 special forums dedicated to the PSD, so you could post there if you don't like or want replies from gas engine truck owners.

I find it interesting that people are dismissing this when you have a dealer, 1956MarkII, confirming that Ford has wised up to the mods. Not only is Ford cracking down on the owners, they are cracking down on the dealers that try and slip warranty work through that should not be covered.
