According to haynes the pcm for a 5.0 and 5.8 use the same color codes, so as far as that they are the same. Not uncommon to hear of people plugging the 5.8 harness into a 5.0 equpped truck and calling it good without changine the computer. Hope that helps, later
Thanks JW, Hows your project coming along? The engine is back in my truck and it should be buttoned up in the next day or so and then hopefully the computer will be redone next week and I can drive it again. I'm looking forward to driving it with some decent HP in it.
My project is at a stand still to be honest. I purchased a welder and have moved my interest towards the bodywork, I will get those heads on there one of these days. Lemme know how your swap turns out, good luck
El cheapo, well relatively speaking, campbell hausfeld wire feed 115v arc welder. It uses flux core wire only, there is an adapter kit should I choose to make my life easier and use gas but I am in no hurry as usual. Last time I touched a welder was 13 years ago and it was a (stick) arc welder and an acetalyne torch, not to mention I only used them a couple of times, so I am at zero as far as learning/experience. I read many posts over a period of a few months and seems everyone who bought the brand campbell hausfeld, regardless of model, seemed to like it, as far as cheaper welders go. Who knows?
I'll have to look into the Campbell, I'm not wanting to spend alot and my recent welding experience mirrors your own, nada for many years now. Thanks JW!
It requires C/25 shielding gas but is supposed to be real good when used on sheetmetal, or that is what a "career welder" told me. Again I dunno but should you choose to use a gas welder with that shielding gas, the wire costs about what any other wire would cost, so there would be no loss. Its a thought I suppose, good luck
Thanks JW, I'll check that one out. Just talked to Joe at Mustang Ranch, he said he got to drive my truck on Friday and it was amazing, he said you could fry the 35" MTR's without even trying, and thats with the chip not burned yet. Sounds like the 518 cam we talked about worked out OK in the torque dept. for the 393. They just had the new chip burned yesterday and will be putting her on the Dyno tomorrow morning to see where were at. Very anxious to get it back now!
Well, I just got off the phone with them. They only did one pull today and they are setting up the chip tonight with some other prgramming. The HP was 270 and 345 TQ. A little less than I had hoped for, but he said I'm probably getting 25-30% loss through the tc, traanny and pushing the 35's. We'll see what they come up with tomorrow.
Hey JW, Hows it going? Well, I got the truck back and they did make some more computer adjustments, and now it runs like a scared ape. Were going to do the next dyno pull after its broke in, a cold air intake is made up and I have a new transmission in it. The E4OD that a local shop here in town rebuilt several years back with a Level 10 kit in it is a piece of crap, getting up to about 230 just around town, then the engine coolant starts to get hotter because I'm still using the radiator cooler for the tranny along with the aftermarket one in front of the radiator, along with some serious shifting issues to deal with, so that tranny is history for me. I just ordered a new E4OD from Brians Truck Shop in Arkansas, I should have it by week after next. Also, I'm having a problem with the auto serpentine tensioner bending outward toward the front of the truck, so I'm wondering whats causing that. I need to find out if either of the big aluminum mounting brakets are different on the 5.0 and the 5.8? Or the other possiblility is that there is a larger style pulley on either the crank, PS or smog pump and the belt is a little too short then, causing excessive prussure on the tensioner an And making it bend?
Anyhow, its going to be a sweet setup, for sure. Now it'll be on to the one ton front and rearend, ARB's, 37's and the NP205 with twin sticks. Then hopefully next year the 200hp shot of juice!

I would think the brackets would be the same on both but then its just a guess, you could always call a ford dealer and see if the replacement part numbers are the same, you probably already thought of that though. That 230 degree temp would bug the snot out of me. Sounds like your enjoying the process, thats all that matters, good luck in the future. Later
